Vinus is a free iOS app (available only in Aus/NZ) that lets users log and purchase wines by just snapping a picture. Users can follow friends and wine professionals to discover great new wines. The customer problem we are tackling is common to the four "super long tail" product categories (wine, books, music, movies) - namely how to find which wines are best for you from among tens of thousands. Vinus makes money through the sale of wine. We have the largest wine SKU coverage in Australia. We buy wine at wholesale prices and sell at retail prices. We do not hold any inventory and rely on third parties to deliver wine nationwide. Crowd-sourced wine discovery is attracting significant VC funds in the U.S. and Europe (e.g. Drync, Vivino, Delectable). We are applying many of the concepts developed by these startups and tailoring them to the Australian market. The Australian market has very attractive margins and fewer regulatory hurdles than the U.S. for the sale of wine online.
